  4. Crystal, a holiday blog is such a fun idea!

The holidays wouldn't be the same for our family without the inclusion of some of our favorites: pumpkin pie oatmeal, baked french toast sticks, and apple-sausage quiches for breakfast meals.

For Thanksgiving, I always make a batch of pumpkin cookies with caramel frosting for the kids while the adults eat the standard pumpkin pie and maybe I'll make a lemon pound cake with blackberry sauce drizzled over the top.

Christmas gingerbread boys & girls are a priority, along with the cutout decorated sugar cookies. Right after Thanksgiving, I start baking and freezing apple cinnamon bread, nutbread, and pumpkin bread. They make quick nice last minute gifts for neighbors, book club friends, etc. I always make a triple batch of cream cheese sausage balls for snacking and quick breakfasts. They freeze really well and then just pop in the microwave. Always make pecan pie and peppermint cheesecake for Christmas dinner. On Christmas Eve, a tradition for us is peppermint ice cream and mint chocolate chip ice cream along with our cut-out Christmas cookies. We've always got lots of homemade hot chocolate and cinnamon apple cider on hand, too.

It's always the traditional turkey/dressing dinner with the trimmings for Thanksgiving.

Christmas is another story. We do baked ham some years and others we've been known to grill steaks, ribs, pork chops, whatever. We change it up from year to year. It wasn't that way when my mom was still alive. She insisted on traditional. However, both my daughter and I are more in favor of a relaxed atmosphere on Christmas. Santa's gifts & stocking gifts start the day and then we do a big breakfast, followed by our gifts for one another. Then it's pretty much fun and games the rest of the day and evening.

Won't be long and everyone will be busy getting ready to celebrate the holiday season!

  5. I have a great hot chocolate recipe, but it's from a chef that I love. DO you want it? I don't normally use cookbooks but this chef is awesome.
